The Undoing

Unshackle yourself from the zooming net, which has been cast over you, and many others, which you, along the others, have willed upon yourself. Unfacebook, uninstagram, unyoutube, untwitter yourself. Ungmail and unviber and unamazon and unnetflix. Also ungoogle. Unwifi your ipad and uniphone your soul.

Surrender all your weapons of mass destruction, you criminal, you virtual killer of yourself. Delete all your past and present comments. Unpost and unlike and uncomment. Remove and retreat. Unbuckle and unfollow. Above all, unfollow.

So you can begin to follow your own path, or what you remember of it, that goes beyond infantile liking and unliking, or taking of sides and calling of names, and finger pointing and division and hatred. Beyond the Puritan purges, and rightist bigotry and bullying, and the bigotry of the leftist uncultured cancelling. Cancel, unlearn, and undo that motion that makes you grasp towards the voices which have been wrongly given a platform, or given a wrong platform, so many voices, in so many images and words, so many times a day. This is not what was meant by having a conversation. Or by having a good life. Or having a life.

Hit the reverse button, go as far backwards as you can possibly remember. Silence yourself goldenly. Dig deep into your primal, pre-internet self, look everywhere, as if your life depended on it, inspect every nook and cranny of your dislodged being, invert your mental pockets, immerse yourself totally in your own unscreened nudity --  so you can begin to see what you are left with.
